Univers tees
23 September 2007
We at Fontzone are dismayed that no one is celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the publication of Univers – which first appeared in Typographische Monatsblatter in May 1957 – designed by Adrian Frutiger. So, to mark the release of this ground-breaking face, we have designed and printed a set of t-shirts.
Univers was, of course, the first typeface to be released in a rational family, with four widths and six weights. Frutiger also introduced the numbering system to designate weight and style, which has since been widely adopted.
Each shirt has all 21 original styles of Univers, overlaid in a cross-hatched design. This cross-hatching was inspired by Frutiger’s own typeface comparison work as documented in his book ‘Type, Sign, Symbol’.
The t-shirts are available in five colours (red, royal blue, sunflower yellow, khaki and black) and three sizes (medium, large and extra large) priced at GBP:12.50 including postage. Also available in red, black and sunflower yellow (extra large only) are long-sleeve shirts priced at GBP:16.00.
To order one of these limited run shirts just visit the Fontzone online shop.
